Wow, here it is already — almost the end of October. For anyone following my projects, here's the latest:
CJSW 90.9 FM Calgary Funding Drive
I spend quite a bit of time at CJSW doing a combination of web jobs and working on Hotbox Radio in their studios. Recently, I was asked to set up an online donation system for their funding drive (Ongoing until Friday, Oct. 29), the result of which is at donate.cjw.com. I used a combination of Drupal, jQuery and CiviCRM to produce an intuitive workflow allowing donators to contribute while giving CJSW staff an effective and user-friendly interface for delivering contributor incentives. I ended up coding a new Drupal module to allow for a $10 shipping option in CiviContribute; if somebody needs a handling fee or shipping cost option in CiviCRM Contribute pages, drop me a line, I may release the code after the funding drive if there's any interest.
CJSW's an absolutely fantastic station and some of the best radio I've encountered not only in Calgary, but damn near anywhere. They have all of their streams available online, in addition to some top-rated podcast content. I helped with the municipal election website and it had more interviews with more candidates than any other media group in the city. If you live in Calgary, seriously consider donating at least $25 for the Friends of CJSW Card, which pays itself off in about two uses. Regardless, if you believe in the importance of public radio, donating a few bucks during CJSW's funding drive is a karmatically-positive thing all around.
mod_jea_anythingslider 0.1.1
I think it's safe to say I got a little bit over my head with the first open source project I released, the mod_jea_anythingslider. Not only was it the first time I'd actually coded a modular piece of Joomla! code, but it was also one of the first pieces of jQuery code I'd ever used.
Well, fast forward about six jQuery projects and the project seems pretty simplistic now. I've updated the code to prevent jQuery from conflicting with Mootools and now everything should work much better. If there's any interest in this code, I'll add a few more options and release a second version. See it in action at Barry Commercial.
Hotbox News
I've been trying to produce Hotbox Radio on a biweekly basis, but it seems I'm having difficulty meeting my Saturday evening deadline. I've also produced nearly no content whatsoever for Hotbox Magazine in the process, and am thus thinking I may move it to a monthly release schedule. I could seriously use a co-host or associate producer at this point. If you live in Calgary and want to do wicked-awesome radio stuff, please drop me a line!
